The Florence Area Triathletes (FAT) Club was established in
2004 due to the increased interest in triathlons in our area.
The Fitness Forum is the host for our local sprint triathlon
called Tri
the Pee Dee. The goal of our club is to encourage
individuals from beginner exercisers to experienced
athletes to compete in multisport events. By encouraging
participation the ultimate goal of a healthy lifestyle is
easier to obtain. The Fitness Forum is the host
organization for the Club however membership is open
to all individuals throughout the Pee Dee regardless of their affiliation

Triathlon Training Options
Offered at the Fitness Forum
Below is
some basic information of services we offer at the Fitness Forum to supplement
or enhance your triathlon training program.
If you want to train with other people, we have several classes here at the
Forum that would get you ready. They are not competitive with others in the
classes but they are designed to give you a good workout in all three
disciplines.
Spinning Classes - will improve your
biking endurance and technique
Brick
classes- will improve your running and your transition from the bike
to the run.
Swimming
sessions with a coach will help point out technique issues and just
give you time in the water needed to build your endurance.
All of these are free to our members. If you want one-on-one training, Karen
Leatherman offers these training tools and packages.
She has a masters degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of South
Carolina and is a USA Triathlon Certified Coach.
Fitness Evaluation $100
Cardiopulmonary exercise test to determine VO2 max and Anaerobic
Threshold on treadmill and bike. This allows for sports specific exercise
prescriptions.
12 Week Program $75
Using the information obtained in the Fitness Evaluation, a 12-week
written training schedule is developed.
One-on-One Coaching $35/session
This is an hourly rate. If you purchase 12 or more sessions, you will
receive the Fitness Evaluation and 12 week program free ($175 value)
Ten Week Training Program for Beginners $150
This is designed for individuals doing their first tri. Classes are
held 2 times a week for 10 weeks beginning in May. It is designed to get you
ready for our local triathlon, “Tri the Pee Dee” in July. Each person is
given a schedule to follow on the other days between group sessions. This class
requires a minimum of 5 participants.
