Because
we recognize that no two people have the same health and fitness needs, the
Fitness Forum offers a variety of specialized services designed to benefit you!
VO2Max and Lactate Testing
- Maximal
Heart Rate- direct measure during the test using Polar Monitor
or EKG. Estimations can be as much as 10-15% off especially for individuals
over age 40.
Anaerobic Threshold- This is the level at which you begin to
burn more carbohydrates. It is the point used to separate Heart Rate Zone 2 from
Zone 3.
Respiratory
Compensation- This is the level at which your
body cannot keep up with the C02 production. It is the point at which Heart
Zone 5 begins. This level can only be held for short periods of time such as
interval training.
Peak
V02 - This is the maximal amount of 02
uptake during exercise. This is the end point for Zone 5.
Whether you are an elite
athlete or recreational exerciser you can benefit from an accurate
individualized exercise prescription. For more information or to schedule and
appointment, contact Karen
Leatherman.
Fitness Assessment
If the VO2 max test seems too serious for you
then you may be interested in a series of physical tests that provide you with
your general fitness level based on your age and sex. These tests include, a
9-minute sub maximal bike ride or walk on a treadmill, a sit and reach test
measuring flexibility, a 1-minute abdominal crunch test to measure strength and
endurance and finally a push up test (regular or modified) to measure upper body
strength. Following the test, you will receive a copy of the results and your
examiner will provide you with an exercise plan based on those results and the
goals you wish to achieve.
